Discover the Dutch province Zeeland by motorhome

The province of Zeeland has plenty to offer the camper owner! Because of the relatively short distances, it is perfect to combine a city visit with an outing just outside the city, such as a museum or the water park Neeltje Jans. Are you going to spend a long weekend in a motorhome in Zeeland, or are you going on a camping trip with children? Then these trips are definitely a must!

In the city of Goes old and new come together, which makes this a beautiful destination for your camping holiday in Zeeland. From the Grote Markt you can almost walk to all the sights of the city. From here it's easy to get to the city harbour, around which you'll see beautiful historic buildings that are certainly not inferior to Amsterdam's canal-side properties! Today the harbour is still in use as a marina. If you walk further through the centre, you will come across several beautiful churches and also the Historical Museum De Bevelanden, where you can learn everything about Zeeland's traditional costumes and samplers. This is a patch that young girls used to be able to practice embroidery with. The special thing about this museum is that it is housed in an old monastery, which also served as an orphanage for some time. You can also visit the oldest building in Goes, namely Slot Oostende. A beautiful castle on the outside, and inside you can enjoy a beer from your own brewery or a delicious meal! The castle was built as early as the thirteenth century. In the following centuries a lot has been adapted and renovated at the castle. You can take a guided tour through both the castle and the brewery to learn more about it.

After your visit to the city, it's time to head for the coast with the motorhome. Besides a lovely day at the beach, for which Zeeland is also perfect, it is of course also very nice to spend a day on the water during your weekend away in Zeeland with your motorhome! You can rent a boat at various places, for example at Zeilschool De Viking. The sailing school is about fifteen minutes drive from Goes. There are various types of boats for hire, including a sloop and a motorboat. Feel the wind going through your hair when you are on the water and see the beautiful surroundings of the Veerse Meer, which is largely surrounded by greenery. If you are staying for a longer period of time and would like to learn how to sail, this is of course also possible here.

For a wonderfully quiet overnight stay in a camper you can spend the night just outside Goes at the farm in Heinkenszand. If you want to be near the sea after your adventure on the water, you can also spend the night within walking distance of the Veerse Meer.

The capital of the province of Zeeland, Middelburg, is a beautiful historic city to visit by motorhome! On the market square you will immediately notice the beautiful town hall, which was already built in 1952. From the Markt you can also easily go to the many sights. Especially the abbey of Middelburg is a special place. From 1100 to 1574 the monks from Flanders lived here, until they had to leave when the prince of Orange conquered the city. Since then it has been used as a seat for the States of Zeeland. You can also book a guided tour of the abbey to find out more about it. Another beautiful building in the centre, which unfortunately cannot be visited from the inside, is the Stadsschuur. This was used as a warehouse from 1585 to 1998. Near Middelburg there are also several windmills, most of which can also be visited during your camper trip through Zeeland, usually when the mill is running. It's wise to check this per mill.

Zierikzee is a beautiful town with a medieval appearance. It was not for nothing that the city was used as a backdrop for the film of naval hero Michiel de Ruyter! Because there are about 500 monuments in the historical centre, the city is in the top 10 of the Dutch monument cities. In the city you will find beautiful historic harbour gates, which date back to the 14th century. The city port of Zierikzee is also worth a visit because of the view of one of the old city gates (the Zuidhavenpoort). Here you will also find Museumhaven Zeeland, where you can learn everything about the former Zierikzee and Zeeland's shipping industry. Perhaps the most special thing about this port is that you can literally hear the porpoises: a listening post makes this possible!

In February 1953, the Flood Disaster occurred, with the dikes breaking through due to a huge storm. To know more about this disaster, you can visit the Watersnood Museum. From Zierikzee it is about a 10-minute drive by camper van to the museum. The special thing about this museum is that it is housed in 4 caissons (large concrete blocks) that were used after the disaster to close the dike near Ouwerkerk. In the museum you can find out, sometimes interactively, how the disaster happened, how the aid went, what the consequences were of the disaster and the floods that are taking place today. A museum that is impressive for both young and old! The museum and a visit to the historic centre of Zierikzee can be combined in one day, but of course you can always stay longer!

Just outside Zierikzee, but still within walking distance of the centre, you will spend the night at camper place De Zandweg.
