The best motorhome destinations in Europe in September!

The summer is almost coming to an end and tourists are slowly dissapearing from the most popular European summer destinations. In fact, September is an amazing month to go on a motorhome trip! The hordes of people are gone and the weather is still very pleasant. There are also various fun events in Europe this month that you should definitely experience once in your life! Are you curious for our favourite destinations for this month? Then quickly read on!

Almabtrieb, Austria

From mid-September until early October, the Almabtrieb takes place everywhere in Austria. During this old tradition, the cattle is safely brought back into the valley to return to their stables for winter. All of the cows, calves, bulls, sheeps and goats are decorated with head pieces and bells, which makes this parade a beautiful spectacle!

The most important and biggest Almabtriebe take place in the Austrian states of Tyrol, Vorarlberg and Salzburgerland. Make sure you are near these areas if you want to admire the spectacle. In Vorarlberg, you can stay with your motorhome at the Zeinissee, on the border with Tyrol and surrounded by beautiful mountains. Close to the border with Liechtenstein there's a motorhome stopover as well, namely Stellplatz Mathis. Would you rather stay in Tyrol? Then you can park your motorhome at Alpin Seefeld, Bauernhof Schönachhof or Gasthof Humler-Hof. Keep an eye on the dates of the Almabtrieb, though. The events are spread out over the months of september and october, and you wouldn't want to miss it!

Loire valley, France

France is a perfect place to spend the end of summer. Especially around the Mediterranean Sea, the temperatures will be nice and warm during this time of year. Another nice place to stay: the Loire valley, better known as Le Pays de la Loire. This beautiful region in the west of France lies just below Brittany and has many fun activities and sights. The region lends it name to the river Loire, which runs straight through the valley. In September, the average maximum temperature lies at around 22°C. Despite these pleasant temperatures, you should still bring your raincoat and umbrella since you can expect between 3 and 8 days of rain here in september.

The Loire valley is mostly known for its gorgeous castles that can be found here. A few castles that you definitely cannot miss are the enchanting Castle of Chenonceau and the impressive Castle of Chambord, with a mere 440(!) rooms. Besides castles, the Loire valley also has several nice cities, such as Nantes and Orléans, and you can also head out into nature. To spend the night in the Loire valley, you can park your motorhome at Domaine de La Chevrue or the free motorhome stopover Parking Champalud.

Alentejo, Portugal

Alentejo, in the south of Portugal, is a beautiful region that is still fairly unvisited by tourists. It's still amazing weather here in september; with temperatures rising up to 25°C. This is the perfect month to enjoy real summer weather. In the Alentejo region you will mostly encounter olive groves, vineyards, small bays and extensive green landscapes. Definitely have a look at the Alentejo Literol, the coast of this region. A few of the most beautiful places along this coastline are Sines, the birthplace of explorer Vasco da Gama, the fisherman's village Zambujeira do Mar, and Porto Covo, a beautiful seaside town with a couple of the most beautiful bays and beaches of the Alentejo.

You also shouldn't forget to visit a couple of beautiful cities during yo ur trip to the Alentejo. A couple nice cities are Estremoz, a walled marble city surrounded by olive trees and vineyards, and Évora. This last city is the capital of the region and has lots of beautiful architecture and cosy restaurants.

Stay with your motorhome at the free motorhome stopover Praia de Sao Torpess. Would you rather stay away from the coast? Then you'll have to go to Parque de Cidade. This motorhome stopover lies close to the city Beja, where you will find a beautiful historical centre with white houses and small alleyways. Here you can feel Portugal's history!
