The best motorhome destinations in Europe in August!

It's great weather everywhere in Europe in August! This month is the period where many motorhomers head out to beach towns or escape into nature. Do you fancy going on a little trip this August? We probably shouldn't have to tell you that Austria is a great destination for winter. But in summer too, this country is an amazing place to go on vacation. You can make the best hikes in all the nature reserves and mountain ranges or you can take a dip in one of the many mountain lakes. Our recommendation: the Achensee, located inbetween the legendary skiing resort Kitzbühel and the stunning city of Innsbruck.

The Achensee is 9 kilometres long and offers exciting activities on the water as well as fantastisch experiences in nature! In the nearby Rofan and Karwendel mountain ranges, there are over 500 kilometres of marked hiking trails; from easy routes for the entire family to steep mountain trails for experienced climbers. Besides, there are lots of great biking trails to be found in this area.

In need of some cooling down? On the Achensee, you can go kitesurfing, paddle boarding, swimming, diving or even fishing! And if you feel extra adventurous, you could participate in a canyoning tour! Anyways, there is something for everyone in and around the Achensee. Are you planning on spending your vacation here? From afar it almost looks like the Colosseum, but Arena di Verona is really something else. This amphitheatre might be old, it is still in full swing! Every year, the best opera concerts are hosted here during the Arena Opera Festival, and in 2023 the 100rd edition will take place! From the 16th of June until the 9th of September you can enjoy amazing opera in this romantic city.

Besides opera, the city of Romeo and Juliet has a lot of other things to offer: the delicious Italian cuisine, beautiful architecture and sights, and the nearby Lake Garda. The Basque Country is an autonomous region in the north of Spain with its entirely own culture, atmosphere and language. The temperatures aren't very high here; the average year temperature lies around 16°C and the area has a fair amount of rain. August is the best month to travel here, though, with a maximum temperature of 25°C and the least rainfall of the year.

Explore the capital of the Basque Country: Bilbao. A visit to the world famous Guggenheim Museum should definitely be on your list! Another fun city to explore is San Sebastián. This beach town has an amazing beach, cosy streets and hundreds of good restaurants. There are motorhome stopovers relatively close to the city centre in both cities. There are also several beautiful nature reserves in the Basque Country, such as the Urdaibai nature reserve or nature park Bardenes Reales, where you can find a couple of extra-terrestial-looking rock formations. To complete your trip to the Basque Country, you have to stop by a pinxtos bar; these Basque tapas are served on a piece of bread and are the perfect snack for lunch or during a dinner at night.
