Spending the winter with your motorhome: The best destinations

The winter months are here again. That means: it is time to look for a warm location with the motorhome to spend the winter! In the south of Europe, the temperatures still fluctuate between 10 and 20 degrees in winter. So you can enjoy the lovely autumn sunshine even longer! These are the best locations to spend the winter with your campervan.

Romantic Seville

In Seville, in the south of Spain, the average temperature in winter is around 15 degrees. A good time to visit the city! In Seville, you will discover the Alcázar, the oldest royal palace in Europe. When the Spanish royal family is in Seville, they stay here. The palace is especially beautiful because of its Moorish influences. Among other things, you will find a spectacular patio surrounded by beautiful Moorish arches. Right next to the Alcázar is Seville Cathedral. It is especially known for its size, as it is the fourth largest church in the world. Near the church you will also find the Giralda, a bell tower from which you have a beautiful view of the city!

A visit to the Plaza de España is also a must. This beautiful square was built for the Ibero-American exhibition in 1929. With this exhibition, the country wanted to make peace with the American colonies of the past. Today, government institutions live in the buildings around the square.

In Seville you can spend the night at the Area Ac Sevilla Centro campervan park, among others.

Spending the winter with a motorhome in Lagos

Also in the southern Portuguese town of Lagos, you will spend the winter with an average temperature of 16 degrees. You will spend the night here with your camper van just a stone's throw away from various attractions in the area. To start with, we recommend the centre of Lagos. Here you will find typical Portuguese houses in bright colours and with Portuguese tiles on the walls. Outside the centre, the Benagil Cave is one of the most famous attractions. Between these caves, you will find a beautiful beach. You can take a refreshing dip in the water here. The best way to reach the caves in the winter months is by boat tour or kayak. You can also swim to the caves, but it is better to wait until the warmer months!

Apart from the beautiful beach by these rocks, there are many more beautiful beaches to be found in Lagos, including the Praia de Porto de Mós. Although you won't be taking a dip in winter, the impressive coastline of these beaches makes them worth a visit. Along some of the beaches you will find beautiful cliffs! Most beaches are within walking distance of the centre. The surroundings are therefore very suitable for a walk along the various beaches of Lagos.

In Lagos, you will spend the night at Area de Sevico.

The Portuguese Douro Valley is another beautiful region in the north of the country. You can easily visit this valley with your campervan. In the area, you can take long walks among the vineyards and of course taste the most delicious port wines!

Port city of Marseille

Marseille in France is rapidly developing into an increasingly popular city break destination. And with good reason! Even in winter, this is a good destination for a camper van, because the temperature regularly exceeds 12 degrees. Among other things, you will find the Vieux-Port. This old port was built in the 15th century. There are two forts that you can admire. During a walk through the port, you will see boats coming and going all the time and you will find several shops and eateries.

Besides that, the district Le Panier is a must. This is the oldest district of Marseille and the creative part of the city. Here, you will find numerous ateliers, concept stores and various graffiti murals. A footbridge takes you to the MuCEM, a museum that is especially beautiful on the outside because of its special 'plaited' roof. Also when you are inside, you can admire the impressive architecture. In the museum, you will learn everything about the Mediterranean people of the past and present.

Near Marseille, you can spend the night at the camper village in Gémenos, among other places.

The island of Sicily

Sicily is known for several beautiful historical sights and impressive nature. On a campervan journey in the winter, you can expect a temperature of about 14 degrees. If you are fond of archaeological excavations, this island is the place to be. You will find Greek temples near Agrigento, for example. These temples are located in a beautiful area full of pine trees. Taormina also has an old Greek theatre that is worth a visit. If the weather is clear, you can see Etna from here!

Etna is one of Sicily's natural jewels. You can walk to the top of the 2500-metre high volcano in about 4 hours. You can also take the cable car to the top. From the top, you have a beautiful view of the Italian country! In the north of the island, you will also find the Apennines. Here, you can enjoy hiking through the green surroundings and along one of the many mountain lakes.

On Sicily, you can spend the night at Area Sosta Camper Giovanni in San Vito Lo Capo, among other places.

Sunny Málaga with the camper van

On the Spanish south coast you will find Málaga. It is not surprising that this is a well-known destination for spending the winter with a camper van, as the city is located on the Costa del Sol. In the winter, the temperature regularly goes up to 20 degrees. Apart from a fine beach, you will also find a beautiful city centre. The castle of Málaga, for example, towers above the city on the Gibralfaro mountain. You reach the castle after a steep climb. In addition, the Alcazaba is highly recommended. During a visit, you can really admire the Moorish influences, for example with the flowing details that have been applied to the fortress!

In Málaga you will also find a special cathedral. It took more than 200 years to build it, but there were frequent problems with the money. That is why one of the towers was never finished. If you climb to the top of the cathedral, you will have a beautiful view of the city. The market hall is also a must. Here you will not only admire beautiful stained glass, but you can also buy the most delicious local products that you prepare in the camper!

In Málaga, you will spend the night just a stone's throw away from the beach at Area Malaga Beach.
