The best destinations for a motorhome trip in March!

March: the month when winter gives way to spring. Temperatures are slowly rising and there is, once again, a lot to experience in Europe! This combination makes March the perfect month for a fantastisch motorhome trip. Are you planning on venturing out with your motorhome this month, but still looking for some inspiration? In this article, we list the best motorhome destinations for this spring month. Have fun!

Green, green and more green!

Every year on the 17th of March, Ireland celebrates St. Patrick's Day. This holiday is centred on the death of Saint Patrick, and is seen as a religious holiday for exactly these reasons. However, St. Patrick's day is primarily seen as the national holiday of Ireland.

During this holiday, Ireland turns completely green. If you really want to follow the rules, you'll go dressed in green with an orange beard and a high hat, but definitely do not forget the Guinness beer! Did you know that, on St. Patrick's day, approximately 13 million Guinness beers are consumed!? Just so you know: on any other day this number is at about 5,5 million.

St. Patrick's Day is celebrated everywhere in Ireland, but also in other parts of the world. The biggest party, however, takes place in Dublin. Dublin is very touristic, though, so we would recommend you to go to Ireland's second biggest city: Cork. Here you'll find all types of festivities and a yearly parade! You can stay with your motorhome at Cobh, a motorhome stopover that is admittedly a little outside of Cork, but you'll be in the centre in no time!

A paradise for bird enthusiasts!

Vast moors and fantastic views: that's the Fochteloërveen. This nature reserve of up to 2,500 acres is found on the border of the Dutch provinces of Friesland and Drenthe, and is one of the last areas of raised bog in Western Europe.

This is not the only extraordinary thing about this place, though! The Fochteloërveen is a paradise for bird enthusiasts! Starting in March, the crane bird opens the spectacle, and from the observation tower you can marvel at the beautiful birds passing by. Besides crane birds, you'll have high chances of seeing robin sparrows and blue harriers. If and when you get unlucky and see no birds at all, the observation tower will still offer you a phenomenal view over this stunning nature reserve!

You can stay the night in Friesland, in the village Appelscha to be exact. Multiple bird-watching tours leave from Appelscha, which you could easily join on your stay there. At Camperplaats Appelscha you'll find comfortable motorhome pitches, and all the facilities that you could wish for!

Oktoberfest... or is it?

For anyone who has passed the opportunity to go to the Oktoberfest last year: Munich has another beerfestival, which takes place in March! Undoubtedly, the Starkbierzeit is a bit more relaxed than the Oktoberfest, but during this party it's all about - the name says it all - strong beer. During the Starkbierzeit, beers have a minimum alcohol percentage of 7.5%, and some even have up to 19% of alcohol!

Starkbierzeit is originally a party that supported the monks during their fasting period. Since they could not eat food for 40 days, they were looking for something to fill their tummies. The solution? Starkbier. In 2023, Starkbierzeit will take place from the 10th of March untill the 2nd of April. Good to know: a lot of people dress up traditionally in Dirndl or Lederhosen, however, this isn't a prerequisite to attending the Starkbierzeit.

You can stay with your motorhome at Allianz Arena Wohnmobilstellplätze. This motorhome stopover lies directly adjecent to the Allianz Arena, which allows you to be in the centry of the city in no time!
