7 essential ski destinations by motorhome in Austria

From the motorhome straight onto the ski slope, that sounds like music to your ears, doesn't it? At these places it's possible and you can get off the slopes in no time at all! Whatever your level, there are suitable ski locations for everyone. Of course you can also enjoy the beautiful surroundings or the cosy city at most places. Lots of snow fun!

Ischgl

Do you want to be sure that there is snow during your ski holiday with your motorhome? Then Ischgl is perfect, as around 90% of all pistes are over 2000 metres above sea level. The highest point here is 2872 metres, which means that there is practically always snow. So from November to May, you can have a great time on the pistes, which cover a total of 238 kilometres here. There are red pistes in particular, but also a number of black and blue pistes. Ischgl is also home to the longest downhill run in all of Tyrol! There are also 5 drag lifts, 25 chairlifts and 11 gondola lifts in the ski area.

Spend the night in Ischgl at the farm. You are within walking distance of the free ski bus to Ischgl and Galtür. 100 metres away you will find a restaurant where you can warm up with a mulled wine. Electricity is available here.

Gerlos

Gerlos, part of the famous Zillertal, is known for being on the slopes from your accommodation, which of course makes it a perfect skiing area! Here you will find some 139 kilometres of - mainly red - piste. Together with the excellent facilities for children, this makes it an ideal area for families. Here, too, snow is almost always guaranteed, as the highest point is at 2505 metres! Here you have about 11 gondolas, 22 chairlifts and 18 drag lifts. With a typical Austrian atmosphere, Gerlos is the perfect location for a cosy skiing holiday with the family!

In Gerlos you can also spend the night at the farm. Sanitary facilities are available. The ski slopes are a short distance away, you can go cross-country skiing and you will find a restaurant.

Flachau

Flachau, in particular, is one big road through the valley. Because the village lies at the foot of the mountain, you are right on top of the slopes. Of the 120 kilometres of pistes, here too you will mainly find red pistes, a number of blue pistes and only a few black pistes. Perhaps you are familiar with the skiing area of the World Cup downhill run, where there is a battle to become first with the giant slalom. This is a slightly lower ski area, the highest point being at 1980 metres. With 12 gondolas, 16 chairlifts and 16 drag lifts you will certainly have fun here!

In Flachau you have two accommodation options with the motorhome. You can spend the night at the restaurant Alter Jagdhof where guests of the restaurant can stay for free. Facilities such as the supermarket are about 500 metres away.

You can also spend the night at the Jausenstation Schauphof. This place is just like the other motorhome stopover in Flachau free of charge for guests. Because you are in the middle of nature here, facilities such as the supermarket are only 4 kilometres away. Please note that this pitch is not suitable for large motorhomes!

Sölden

The ski slope in Solden has an altitude of up to 3250 metres, so snow is guaranteed! The skiing area in the Öztal Arena is the perfect place for beginners, as you will find mainly blue pistes. Ideal for families with small children. There are also plenty of red and black pistes for advanced skiers, so there is something for everyone! You will find 8 gondolas, 19 chairlifts and 7 drag lifts. Solden is known as the largest ski area in this valley, so get ready for plenty of skiing fun!

From Camping Sölden you are only a few hundred metres away on the ski slopes. For a fee you can use the sauna here to warm up after skiing!

Zell am See

Although you 'only' have 77 kilometres of slopes here, the view of the lake here is really beautiful while you're off the slopes! This is of course because of the lake that you look out on from the piste. Here you will find almost as many blue as red and black pistes. Perfect for families with different levels. The highest point is at 2000 meters and there are 7 gondolas, 10 chairlifts and 7 drag lifts. Besides skiing you can also skate perfectly in this area when the lake is frozen. The village is also very popular with young people because of all the restaurants and cafes, but because of the different types of pistes you can have a good time here at all ages.

In Zell am See you will spend the night at Camping Seecamp. Here you will find sanitary facilities and electricity, as well as a washing machine and dryer.

Seefeld

Time for a 'Best of the Alps', to which Seefeld is affiliated! Seefeld is especially perfect for beginning skiers because of the many blue slopes. There is a small section of red and black pistes, but not enough for an experienced skier to enjoy themselves on the slopes for days on end. In addition, with 31 kilometres, this is a relatively small ski area. Of course, this makes it perfect for a skiing holiday with the little ones! It is also the oldest pedestrian area in Tyrol where you will find shops and restaurants. As a result, this ski area is known as a fine combination between city life and being active on the slopes!

In Seefeld you will spend the night at camping Alpin Seefeld. Sanitary facilities are available here. An ideal place, because the ski lift is right in front of the door!
