4x hiking during your motorhome-trip through Spain

When you think of Spain, you probably think of sun, sea and beaches. But did you know that you can also go hiking when you visit the country with your motorhome? The natural areas in this article are among the most beautiful in the country! 

Sierra de Guara is a beautiful gorge area in northern Spain. The nature reserve lies between the Pyrenees and the Ebro Valley. In the area you will find impressive gorges that you can discover especially well on a hike. From the village of Rodellar, for example, you can walk. This is the starting point of several long distance hikes, so you will surely meet more hikers! Of course it is also possible to walk a short distance. The medieval bridge is also a must visit when in Rodellar! 

Although the whole nature reserve is bursting with beautiful sights, there are a few locations that stand out. For example, from the village of Morrano you can take beautiful walks along impressive cliffs and in the west of the nature reserve you will find immense blue lakes in which you can cool off. Nature lovers will certainly enjoy themselves here during a motorhome-trip through Spain!

- In the Sierra de Guara nature reserve you can take hours of hiking. 

The Parque Natural Torcal de Antequera is located in Spanish Andalusia. Here it seems like you landed on another planet! The nature reserve was formed when Andalusia was still below sea level. That is now more than 60 million years ago. Acidic rainwater fell on the limestone rocks, creating the current landscape. During a walk through the area you can still see traces of the past: in some places you can still find ancient fossils! In the nature reserve there are three walks you can follow. Two of them are circular, the other is a line walk that you can easily walk up and down. The route is 3.8 kilometers long.

- The Parque Natural Torcal de Antequera used to be under water.

Picos de Europa is another gem in the north of the country. In 2003, UNESCO declared the nature reserve a biosphere reserve. Here, too, hikers can indulge themselves in the rugged mountains. One of the most famous hiking routes in the nature reserve is the Ruta del Cares. Wherever you hike on this route, you are bound to be surrounded by the 2000-meter-high mountain peaks! Also from the village of Las Arenas de Cabrales there are several walks through the Picos de Europa. For an impressive view you do not have to leave the village: from the village you can admire the mountains!

There are also several cable cars in the area with which you can discover beautiful places. For example, from Potes you can reach one of the many mountain peaks with the Fuenta Dé cable car and between the villages of Poncebos and Bulnes there is also an underground cable car. In the past, to reach the other village you had to hike for two hours, but now you only have
to travel 2 kilometers by cable car.

- The Picos de Europa is a gem in the north of Spain.

In the Aigüestortes National Park you will find numerous lakes and rivers. There are even more than 200 mountain lakes in the area! During your hike you can therefore take a lovely swim to cool off. The lakes are surrounded by beautiful high mountains. If you prefer to go by bike, that is also possible. Cars are not allowed in the national park. You can therefore travel to Boi and from there a shuttle will drop you off in the nature reserve. From here you can make several walks through the wetlands. If you visit the west of Aigüestortes National Park, you will find the UNESCO listed Romanesque churches. During your visit to the churches you will admire beautiful murals on the inside.
