6x hiking from the motorhome stopover in Austria!

Austria is the perfect country for hiking! From accessible hikes along the most beautiful mountain lakes to challenging trails along whimsical peaks; whether you are a complete beginner or an expert with the desire to explore, there is a hike for everyone in Austria. And, if you would say so yourself, what's better than resting in your motorhome after a long day in the mountains? In this article, we list a couple of nice motorhome stopovers for you, so you can easily explore the Austrian nature by foot!

1. Am Traunsee, Upper-Austria

The motorhome stopover Am Traunsee lies directly next to the eponymous Traunsee, in the touristic region Traunsee-Almtal. This enchanting lake is surrounded by a beautiful mountain panorama. We recommend that you walk the Miesweg. This path is about 3,4 kilometres long and takes about 1,5 hours to hike. On your way, you will encounter a pebble beach, wooden bridges, and romantic paths aside the water. The starting point of this trail lies at the end of the Traunsteinerstraße, in Gmunden.

Are you hiking on a sweltering day? Don't forget to cool down in the clear water of the lake! Looking for more activities in or by the water? At the Traunsee you can also kitesurf, surf, sail, water-ski, or kayak. At the end of an active day, you can wind down at the motorhome stopover, where you can enjoy a splendid view over the water.

2. Hohe Tauern National Park, Salzburg & Tyrol

At almost 1,900 km2 in size, Hohe Tauern National Park is the largest protected nature reserve in the Alps. The large area of nature naturally ensures that lots of great hiking trails can be found here!

One part of the Hohe Tauern National Park is in the Austrian state of Salzburg, and this section is undoubtedly the most famous part of the national park. Here, you could walk through the Untersulzbachtal, also known as the 'Valley of Diamonds'. This beautiful valley lends its name to the many minerals that are present in the area. Looking for a challenging hike? Consider hiking to the Krimmler Tauernhaus. This hike is 10 kilometres long and takes about 3 hours to complete. On your way, you'll pass along the beautiful Krimml waterfalls. Spend the night with your motorhome at Sportcamp Woferlgut.

If you go hiking in the Tyrolean part of Hohe Tauern National Park, an authentic experience is waiting for you. This area is the most mountainous area of Austria, with over 100 peaks above 3.000 metres! Stunning views are guaranteed! If you want to optimally enjoy these phenomenal views, we advise you to hike the Europa Panoramaweg. Thanks to the lift, you'll start this 5-kilometre-long route directly above the tree line, which makes for an extra pleasant view over a whopping 60 mountains! To stay in the Tyrolean part of the national park, you should park your motorhome at Matreier Tauernhaus.

3. Zeinissee, Vorarlberg

Vorarlberg may be a small state; but its nature is mighty! This is a true paradise for hikers and cyclists. Park your motorhome at Zeinissee, at the banks of the Zeinisbach, and you'll be in the middle of hiking paradise in no time. The motorhome stopover lies at the start of the hike to the Zeinisjoch and Wiegensee. This hike is about 11 kilometres long and takes 3 hours to complete.

We also recommend you go to the valley of Montafon, though this area is located a while from the motorhome stopover. In this gorgeous area you will find over 1.200 kilometres of hiking trails along the most beautiful peaks, rivers, and rock formations. Consider walking the Almhike Nova via panorama Gantakopf. This intermediate hike runs through the lushest landscapes.

At motorhome stopover Trins you stay at half an hour driving from the Stubaital. If you don't fancy driving that bit with your motorhome, don't worry; there are a couple of nice hikes directly at the motorhome stopover, too! Consider walking to the Sarnthein Wasserfall. This light hike's destination is the gorgeous Sarnthein waterfall. During your hike you will pass along the beautiful nature of Trins.
